Private Burgenland Wine Tours from Vienna

Welcome to Burgenland, home to luxurious red and white Austrian wines, as well as some of the finest sweet wines to be found anywhere. Our Burgenland Wine Tour from Vienna brings you right into the heart of this highly regarded wine region, to the shores of the wonderful Neusiedlersee lake. We’ve crafted a biking route through pretty vineyards which takes you to the picture postcard village of Rust - a true hidden gem of global wine locations. While there, you’ll get to taste and experience some truly world class Burgenland wines together with one of the region's best local vintners. Let yourself be enchanted by the beauty of this natural haven for both wildlife and wine connoisseurs alike, and together we'll forge lasting memories for you and your travel companions.

The Best Austrian Wineries

Austrian wine tasting experiences can vary wildly from pretty rustic to high-end (yet somewhat impersonal) boutique tastings. Burgenland's vibe, though, is different - it has boutique wine made by experts in their craft, yet it remains accessible to all. Finding these hidden gems is precisely what we at Venture Vienna specialise in, so we look forward to sharing our passion for this part of the world and the exceptional Burgenland wines found here.

Sunsets & horizons for the soul

Burgenland is known as the sunniest place in Austria, with expansive horizons which make it a sun worshiper's dream location! One of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen, in fact, was over the vineyard landscape next to the lake here. We’ll time this tour to coincide with Lake Neusiedl's setting sun, so that you get to experience the same magical feelings and energy that we did!

Private Burgenland Wine Tastings

Sit with one of Burgenland’s finest wine makers and sample their produce directly. This is a tremendous opportunity to ask questions about how wine is made or anything else that may be on your mind when it comes to wine making. On all our wine tours, we pride ourselves on giving you a level of access and expertise that is rarely found elsewhere.

Half-day Burgenland Wine Tasting Tour from Vienna - Itinerary

Summer (May - Oct)

2:15pm - Meeting time
We meet at the main entrance of Vienna’s Hauptbahnhof railway station for initial introductions before boarding a train to Burgenland. See the map below for full details of how to get there.
Vineyard ride
After a relaxing train journey, we’ll begin our ride through the lakeside vineyards of the UNESCO World Heritage Neusiedlersee National Park, with its never-ending reed beds, its undeniably romantic landscapes, and its expansive horizons.
Private Burgenland wine tasting in the wonderful lakeside village of Rust
This is wine tour after all, so the first thing we’ll do on arrival to Rust, is visiting one of Austria’s best wineries for a deep dive into Burgenland wines. This is a region that excels across the board, so whether you like red wine, white wine or dessert wines, the different varietals grown in the vineyards around the Neusiedlersee are sure to please even the most discerning of palettes during our Burgenland wine tasting.
Free time to explore Rust & dinner
After our wine tasting you’ll enjoy some free time to explore the ridiculously cute village of Rust. You can grab a coffee and cake at a local cafe, head down to the lake shore and soak up the vibe, or wonder around the village in search of the famous stork nests. Feel free to even visit another winery of your choosing! Burgenland is also home to some of Austria’s best cuisine, and it has been influenced over many centuries by neighbouring Hungary, under which the city was ruled until 1921. Its Austro-Hungarian fusion cuisine is enjoyed best with a glass of local wine at one of its many restaurants (dinner not included).
A vineyard ride into the setting sun
Our itinerary then takes you back into the vineyards to enjoy hazy sunset vibes and warm winds blowing through your hair (weather permitting of course!). We’ll be on bike paths, mostly away from other forms of traffic, so you’ll be able to really appreciate the natural beauty of the Neusiedlersee National Park.
Return to Vienna - exact time dependent on the time of year
After an afternoon and evening of gentle exercise and sampling the local goods we’ll circle our way back to our starting point in Vienna.

Burgenland Wine Tour Meeting Point

The tour meeting point is the main entrance to Vienna's 'Hauptbahnhof' train station. If you're arriving by u-bahn from the city center then just take the U1 red line in the direction of Oberlaa. Exit the metro at 'Hauptbahnhof/Süd-tirolerplatz' and then make your way upstairs to the main concourse. Look behind you for the main entrance with the words 'Wien Hauptbahnhof' on the huge glass facade with the clock. We'll meet you there! If arriving by taxi or Uber then on arrival be sure to come to the station's main entrance which faces the Wiedner Gürtel - you'll then see the glass facade and clock as described above.
