Award-Winning Wine Tours from Vienna
Voted Western Europe’s Best Wine Tours, we’ve redefined luxury travel. To us, luxury doesn’t mean a minivan ride – it’s exclusive access to private vineyards, hand-picked vintages, and the tranquility of the Danube, all while maintaining our commitment as Austria’s Eco-Tour Company of the Year.
As for the regions that surround us? Well, Vienna is the only world capital with a major wine industry within its city limits, but the real magic lies just beyond the horizon. From the steep, medieval terraces of the Wachau to the sun-drenched plains of Burgenland and the hidden trails of the Thermal Region, we’ve curated the very best tours of Austrian viticulture.
Whether you’re a seasoned critic or just enjoy a glass in the sun from time-to-time, our wine tours are so different to any generic tasting room experiences you may have had before. We offer fresh air and authentic, family-run wineries, and wherever possible we strive to give you unprecedented access to the wine makers themselves. We want to you to really understand the ‘terroir’ of a region, so explore our hand-picked adventures below.
The Venture Vienna Selection
Vienna Woods: Thermal Region Wine Hike

Wachau Valley: UNESCO Wine & Kayak Tour

Why see the Wachau from a bus window when you can paddle through it? This UNESCO World Heritage landscape is famous for its medieval terraces and clifftop castles, but we take you deeper. By kayaking the Danube, you’ll experience the beauty and tranquility of Austria’s premier wine region from a perspective few travelers ever see. This is an outside the box adventure for those who want nature with their Riesling.
Burgenland: Neusiedlersee Cycling & Wine

An hour from Vienna lies Austria’s sunniest wine region. Known for its world-class reds and diverse bird life, Burgenland is best explored on two wheels. We’ll ride along quiet, level bike paths that wind through lakeside vineyards and other-worldly landscapes. It’s the perfect choice for those who love big horizons and even bigger wines. Join us on a relaxed, scenic ride through Austria’s warmest wine corner.
Austrian Wine Tours: The Essential FAQ

I don't know anything about wine, should I still join your tours?
Absolutely! Having little to no experience with wine is probably even more reason why you should join us! We understand that wine can get a bit technical at times, and that alone can put a lot of people off expressing their opinions about the wines they taste. That’s a real shame though, because having fun and a bit of a laugh all while enjoying and learning about great wine is a very cool way to connect oneself back to nature.
So, yeah, wine snobbery here at Venture Vienna doesn’t really fly, as it just puts up unnecessary barriers to entry into the wine world. We’ve actually created some wine guides for beginners over at the Travel Tortoise, so check them out if you’re after straightforward introductions to some of the main varieties and terms.
I'd rather just focus on the wine without the activities. Can these tours be adapted?
Here at Venture Vienna, we usually like to incorporate a little activity with each of the tours and day trips that we offer. However, we also understand that some people prefer to take it easy and focus entirely on the wine, or that some of you may be recovering from injury, or you’re just not that bothered about cycling, kayaking or walking!
If so, just get in touch via our contact page to discuss options for amending any elements of our tours that you’d prefer to skip or adapt in some way.
Equally, while we usually offer kayaking in the Wachau, biking in Burgenland, and hiking through the Vienna Woods, with a little creativity from our side, we could mix and match activities and regions to give you the ultimate Austrian wine tour experience.
I don't drink, but I've heard a lot about these places. Can I still visit with you?
Non-drinkers keep in mind that all of our wine tours from Vienna can be booked privately, and are therefore easily adapted for people with more interest in just visiting the landscapes. After all, wine is typically grown in beautiful parts of the world, and you certainly don’t need to drink it to appreciate them.
All of the places we take you to are standalone destinations with plenty of things to do. So if wine tasting isn’t your thing, but you still want to tour with us, then just get in touch.
What makes your tours "Luxury"?
Luxury isn’t about being fancy; it’s about being first-class. Our World Luxury Travel Award recognises our focus on small groups (max 8), private tastings with the winemakers themselves, and seamless logistics that support the environment. You’re not just booking a tour; you’re booking an award-winning standard of service.

Intimate Wine Tastings
We only visit small, boutique Austrian wineries old and new, from centuries old Vienna Heurigen to modern bio-dynamic wine-makers, and everything between. We cultivate a relaxed atmosphere and we always do our utmost to get you an audience with the wine makers themselves (harvest time can be a bit tricky though!), so they can tell you their stories directly.
Slow Wine & off-the-beaten-path locations
I understand what it means to ‘get’ the ‘terroir’ of a region, so I bring people right into the heart of it to create lasting positive associations between a wine and its origin. As a result, it can be said that we specialize in slow wine tourism here at Venture Vienna.
Sustainable Wine Tourism
With a strong commitment to sustainable farming and respect for the environment, I’m proud to showcase the work of our partners and friends who work hard in the vineyards and cellars every year to create some of the best small-batch Austrian wines, that are exceptionally hard to find elsewhere.
